A Mapuche Academian at a university that reproduces colonialism

I wasn’t lucky enough to take your class when I entered in this university career, but the influence of her been so transversal that, even so, I have been able to share quite a few moments together. She, Verónica Figueroa Huencho, has been responsible, during her 18 years as public administrator, for broadening the horizon of research regarding the indigenous people existing the territory where we live. In addition, she has become Director of the Escuela de Gobierno y Gestión Pública of her alma mater, the Universidad de Chile, even when, on more than one occasion criticized the role that “la Chile” has taken in terms of public policies, in relation to the systematic violation of human rights, exercised from Estado de Chile towards these peoples, as it does with the rest of country. In January, and until May, she will become one of the few woman who have a played the role of visiting teacher, of the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies of Harvard University;

Just another unpleasant type of Santiago

I met Cristóbal Briceño thanks to a former high school classmate, as in April or May 2014. At that time, along with the Ases Falsos (the most media band he has ever participated in), they were preparing to release their second album, "Conducción". I think one of the things that most captivated me about him was his frenzied rhythm of creations. In addition, some of his lyrics contain elements so everyday, but so deep at the same time, that they end up creating something special, such as in "Nunca se apaga", from his first band, "Fother Muckers": “Soy el ruido de letreros de neón el zumbido de cada una de los tubos fluorescentes. Soy hermano de los silos de plata que se esparcen a oriente y poniente de la Ruta 5”. Despite its unquestionable quality of interpretation and writing, I have quite a lot more critical comments about its way of being. It can become very irritable and ironic, easily exploding at a suspicious question. Anyway,

A photograph you like

The photograph I chose is from a long time ago, at my grandparents’ house in Temuco. I was two and my older brother was eight years; they told me that our grandmother photographed us all that morning. That summer we traveled by train, we spent two full months there, and I like to remember her because my grandmother was very laughing that I smiled for the photos. It also reminds me that in the south, even if it´s summer, it can rain at any time. In fact, the last summer I go to the cine, and when the film ended, I went out of the cinema, with shorts, and it was raining a lot, everyone was looking at me in the street. So that photo reminds me how much fun I have when I go to that city, always find good panoramas and enjoy it a lot . I hope to return soon to Cerro Ñielol.

Pets

Since I grew up living in an apartment, I didn’t have pets until I was ten years old. And the first pets I had were two fish, inside an aquarium that I thought was beautiful. Unfortunately, my brother changed their water one day, as the aquarium had been soiled enough, and inadvertently used very hot water and died instantly. From that moment on, I had no more pets, so you could say that the fish were my favorite while they lived. What I didn’t expect was that three years ago, my parents came in with a little bitch who had abandoned her former owners, and they took her home. It took me quite a while to get used to having dogs at home (now there are two more), but apparently they are already part of the family, and since I do not stay there much, I do not complicate so much. Finally, I still wish I had pet fish, but that's life.

My favorite piece of technology

My favorite piece of technology is, without a doubt, my current but old cellphone. I buy this phone as far as six years ago, when I stay in the secondary school, and always my best friend or my brother make fun of your limited memory. Fortunately, I can set up Spotify, UCursos and One Football, in other words the essential applications in time of study now in the university. I often like use the last app, because am accustomed to attentive about football, especially Colo Colo and Leeds United, the Marcelo Bielsa’s football team, in England. As well as my phone, my notebook is very important for send works or watch series and movies in the weekend. Equally, I need soon money because my cellphone is too many slow, but I want one no more expensive, I satisfied easily with that.
